The Chancery suit of Rutherford v Wilkinson, arising from the estates of the London merchants Thomas Bond (d. 1791) and his brother William Bond (d. 1794), into which the compensation money for the Mona estate was paid in the 1830s, was underway by late 1796. 'Rutherford' was the London merchant Abraham Watson Rutherford, partner of William Bond and consignee of Bond's unnamed Jamaican estates under Bond's will; 'Wilkinson' was Sarah Wilkinson, the widowed niece of William and Thomas Bond.
