1801 - 1858
Partner in Robert Bogle & Co. (q.v.) and affiliated firms, including Bogle, King. Son of Robert Bogle (q.v.), and 'last of Gilmorehill', which he sold in 1845, and cousin of Sir Archibald Bogle (q.v.)
NB there is potential confusion in the compensation claims over Archibald Bogle [of Gilmorehill] and Archibald Bogle the younger or junior. The two never appear in a single claim, so in theory these could be separate claimants. However, 'Archibald Bogle the younger' or 'jun.' appears only with William Hamilton and only in claims in Trinidad which are characterised as claims of Robert Bogle & Co. or James Bogle & Co. It is known that Archibald Bogle of Gilmorehill was the trustee with William Hamilton (q.v.) of his father Robert Bogle of Gilmorehill (q.v.). There was an Archibald Bogle (the maternal uncle of Archibald Bogle of Gilmorehill) in the previous generation before Archibald Bogle of Gilmorehill (born 1801), which might account for the use of 'the younger' or 'junior' for Archibald Bogle of Gilmorehill. LBS has therefore concluded that 'Archibald Bogle' and 'Archibald the younger or junior' are both the same man, Archibald Bogle of Gilmorehill. In the claim for Dunkley's in Jamaica (Vere no. 69) there appear to be two separate men under 'Archibald Bogle', Archibald Bogle of Gilmorehill and his cousin, later Sir Archibald Bogle, son of Andrew (born 1805).

John Guthrie Smith and John Oswald Mitchell, The old country houses of the old Glasgow gentry (2nd edn., Glasgow, James MacLehose & Sons, 1878), XXXIII Daldowie.
Our presumptive identification of Archibald Bogle of Gilmorehill with the Archibald Bogle (1) merchant of Glasgow at present residing at Cheltenham who in 1855 announced his withdrawal from The London, Leith Edinburgh and Glasgow Shipping Co., having sold his shares and (2) the Archibald Bogle whose death was registered at Cheltenham Q3 1858 are both confirmed by the National Probate Calendar, which shows Archibald Bogle formerly of Gilmorehill but late of Cheltenham who died there 26/03/1858, effects under £5000. NB also, notice from James M'Clelland Accountant in Glasgow 'acting under and in virtue of trust disposition and assignation executed by Archibald Bogle, Esq., merchant in Glasgow for behoof of his creditors dated 07/02/1848'.
