Son of the West India merchant and slave-owner David Mitchell. Brother of John [the older] (q.v.), Samuel (q.v.), Francis Henry and William junior, and a partner in W. R. & S Mitchell (q.v.) which failed in 1841-2. Immediately prior to this bankruptcy his daughter Ellen Kate had on 26/07/1841 married Hon. Frederick Thomas Pelham, the second son of the Earl of Chichester.
Born West Indies.
Fiat of bankruptcy and loss of directorship of WIDCO; lost directorship of Guardian Fire & Life Assurance; certified Jan. 1842; appears to have resumed directorship at Guardian Fire & Life until death.
A banker of 57a Upper Wimpole Street when named as an executor in the will of Sarah Tierney Myers (q.v.).
Death registered Q4 1870 aged 86 at Marylebone: buried 'of Nottingham Place, St Marylebone', All Souls Kensal Green 'aged 85' 02/11/1870.
Will proved by brother Francis Henry Mitchell of 12 Upper Wimpole Street 19/04/1871 of Rowland Mitchell formerly of Lime Street but late of 7 Nottingham Place who died 27/10/1870, effects under £300.
