Bernard; 31E - £149 4s 11d went to Judith Bernard junior; 31F - £298 9s 11d went to W.R. Bernard (again). 31F is dated 25/01/1836; all others are dated 07/12/1835.
T71/873: claim from Charles Hill and Thomas S.L. Baker, of St James, as trustees and executors of Charles Bernard, and the heirs of David and Charles Bernard, owners-in-fee.
Jamaica Almanac (1828): Eden Estate registered to David and Charles Bernard and their heirs. David had been dead for nearly 30 years and Charles for 10 years (see letter in T71/1608, dated 26/10/1835, from C.E. Bernard and W.E. [C.?] Bernard, stating that the heirs 'for years have divided the rents and profits of the Estate, according to their proportions').
T71/222: Thos. Hill registered a small number of enslaved persons (not those in this claim ) in 1832.
Joseph Sturge and Thomas Harvey, The West Indies in 1837 (London, Hamilton, Adams, & Co., 1838) p. 227: the authors visited Eden, 'a well-managed estate and one which furnishes little employment for the Special Magistrate'.
