Richard Hall

Shown as co-owner with William Parke of Anfield Lodge (q.v.) in several awards in Jamaica. The path to co-ownership has not yet been firmly traced. The partner of William Parke of Anfield Lodge until 1831 was given as John Hall (q.v.), presumably the son-in-law of William Parke. However, the daughter of Richard Hall was shown in 1851 as having been born in Jamaica c. 1833, suggesting Richard Hall was possibly a local partner of William Parke in Kingston. Under the will of William Parke of Anfield Lodge, Richard Hall of Bongate Cottage, county of Westmorland, was inserted in 1837 as a trustee and executor after the death of an original appointee.

1. A memorial in Appleby St Michael to Richard Hall late of Bongate who died 07/04/1838 aged 43 presumably refers to this man. The same memorial shows Richard Hall's widow Mary dying 23/01/1883 aged 78; and his daughter Elizabeth as having married John Leversage George of Cherington Park Gloucestershire and dying 09/06/1878. No will has been traced for this man.

2. Richard Hall married Mary Heelis in Appleby, 14/04/1828. Elizabeth Mary Hall, daughter of Richard Hall and his wife Mary was baptised in Appleby, Westmoreland, England, 12/09/1833. In 1851, Mary Hall born Appleby aged 46 widow landed proprietor was living at Bongate Cottage Westmorland with daughter E. Mary aged 18 born Jamaica, and three servants. (Mary and Elizabeth were living in Bongate in the census of 1841 as well; by 1861 they were in Clifton, Gloucestershire and by 1881 Mary Hall was back at Bongate Cottage). Mary Hall left £9074 2s 1d at her death in 1883.

3. The will of Edward Heelis (1761-1727), father-in-law of Richard Hall, gives Edward's address as Bongate Cottage and describes Richard Hall as "of Anfield near Liverpool in the county of Lancaster Merchant". Richard Hall's mother-in-law, Mary nee Atkinson was the niece of George Atkinson (1730-1781) and first cousin of George Atkinson (1764-1814) and Matthew Atkinson (1769-1830), all three q.v.
