Awarded slave compensation in Mauritius as partner in Sir Charles Cockerell & Co.
Son of John Larpent (1741-1824) and Anna Margaretta Larpent (1758-1832). Entered the East India house of Cockerell and Larpent at an early age. May 1840 stood unsuccessfully for Ludlow; June 1841 elected for Nottingham; retired from Parliament August 1842 pending result of a petition against his return. Married (1) Charlotte Cracroft (2) Louisa Martha Bailey. One son, Seymour George Larpent.
Owner of sugar estates in Mauritius. In evidence to the Select Committee on Sugar and Coffee Planting in 1848 he discussed the difficulties of the business in the face of slave-based sugar economies and changes in the sugar duties but also the prospects for the growth of Indian sugar.
