Born 31/03/1800 in Edinburgh, son of Andrew Sievwright (q.v.) and his wife Ann née Robertson. Purchased an army commission in 1815. Married Christina Watt in Stirling 03/04/1822. Moved to Australia in 1838 to become assistant to G.A. Robinson, chief protector of Aborigines in Port Phillip.
Moved with his family to Geelong with responsibility for protecting Aborigines across the Western District. His championing of Aboriginal rights led to his dismissal in 1845.
He returned to Britain, leaving his wife and 7 children in Australia. Died 10/09/1855 in 'Belgrave' [St George Hanover Square], London.

A cover note outlining the contents of the document.
