Biography

John Fewtrell Wylde of Uplands House, Chelmarsh, counterclaimed unsuccessfully for £1000 from the compensation for Peter's Hope in St Vincent. He was the son-in-law of Peter Gurley jun. and Mary Selby Gurley (q.v.), having married their daughter Ann who died in 1804.

  1. In 1851 John F. Wylde, widower aged 74 army surgeon half-pay, member of the Royal College of Surgeons London, and farmer, was living at Uplands House, Chelsham Shropshire with his nephew Charles, aged 42 a clergyman without care of souls born Kidderminster. Will of John Fewtrell Wylde of Uplands House Shropshire proved 17/02/1852.

T71/892 St Vincent no. 642, which appears to give the address as Chelmarsh Gloucestershire. John Fewtrell Wylde apparently pursued this claim to the Privy Council to appeal the award to Colin Campbell and Mungo Nutter Campbell, Privy Council Papers Online Case number: 1792_682 (1841); Caribbeana Vol. IV p.41 shows the memorial to Ann Wylde in Holy Trinity, Exeter.
