William Johnstone was shown as the owner of Granton and Boisjency estates on Grenada who was advanced £10,000 by the British state to re-establish the estates in two instalments, £2000 28/11/1795 and £8000 04/04/1797. William Johnstone also appeared as the potential recipient of the estates of the bankrupt Francis Henderson in Grenada in 1800.

  1. Will of William Johnstone of [Grenada at present at] the Percy Hotel Rathbone Place City of Westminster [made in 1816] proved 04/03/1836. He left all his real and personal estate in Grenada to his sister Elizabeth Scarth, widow of Capt. scratch, subject to legacies of £1000 to William Johnstone of Blackheath Hill Academy; £500 to Thomas Herbert of New Burlington Street; and £300 to Mrs Rowland Maltby. [Thomas Herbert and Rowland Maltby had been among the guarantors of William Johnstone's loan from the British state in 1795].
