Biography

Sister of Martha Taylor and Sir Simon Richard Brissett Taylor (both of whom q.v.), daughter of Sir John Taylor and Dame Elizabeth Goodin Taylor. Declared lunatic c. 1822. She left £120,000 at death.

  1. Administration of the will of Maria Taylor formerly of Twickenham but late of Alpha Road Regents Park granted 11/11/1829. In the will made in 1818 she made bequests of specific personal items to relatives, and left her moiety (half) of the Lysson's estate in Jamaica to her mother Dame Elizabeth Goodin Taylor for life and then to the children of her sister Anna Susanna Watson Taylor. Similarly, she left the house at Twickenham to her mother for life and then to her cousin John Malcolm. She made her mother her residuary devisee and sole executrix.

W.D. Rubinstein Who were the rich? A biographical directory of British wealth-holders Vol. 1 1809-1839 (2009) p. 206, reference 1823/22, which gives her as 'Mary'. The entry shows a death date of 27/07/1822. As noted above, letters of administration for Maria Taylor's will (made 30/01/1818) were granted in 1829.
