Francis Rigby Brodbelt Stallard Penoyre formerly Brodbelt

1771 - 1827


Born Francis Rigby Brodbelt, son of Dr Francis Rigby Brodbelt (1746-1795) and Anne Penoyre (1751-1827). Left landed property and £120,000 in personalty in England, as well as land and personalty in Jamaica. He had inherited property in England under the will of his godfather Thomas Stallard Penoyre and property in Jamaica under the will of the Hon. James Lee (q.v.).

  1. Baptised in St Catherine, Jamaica, 26/02/1771. Graduated MD, Edinburgh, 1974. Member of the Council in Jamaica in 1802. Anna Maria, daughter of the Hon. Francis Rigby and Frances Brodbelt, was born 27/6/1804 and baptised in St Catherine, 25/07/1804.

  2. He died in 1827 in Whaplode, Lincoln, England "in his 56th year".

  3. Will of Francis Rigby Brodbelt Stallard Penoyre of Batheaston Somerset proved 23/05/1827. In the will he provided property in England and Jamaica for his reputed children Thomas Lee Brodbelt, James Lee Brodbelt and Eliza Lee Brodbelt, including his bequest to them of any inheritance due to him in Jamaica under the will of the Hon. James Lee.

  4. Francis Rigby Brodbelt Stallard Penoyre's mother Anne Brodbelt nee Penoyre has an entry in the ODNB as 'letter writer and social observer.'
