Biography

Son of James Gale Senior senior and his wife Letitia nee Martin. James Gale Senior (d. 1797) bequeathed Saltspring in St Elizabeth to his four children as tenants in common.

In 1851, James Senior age 57, born Beverley in Yorkshire, Lieutenant Halfpay Army, was living at Montpelier Row, Twickenham, with wife Caroline age 50, fundholder, sons James Christopher age 23, solicitor, Frederick Bernard age 20, articled clerk, Theodore age 14, Augustus age 12, daughters Lucy Harriet age 19, Agnes Maria age 17, Frances age 10, cousin Maria Letitia Senior age 62 and two female servants.

James Gale Senior age 67 of Hill Street, Richmond, was buried at Kensal Green cemetery 28/01/1861. In the 1861 census his widow Caroline, age 62, Fundholder, born St Luke's Middlesex, was living at Upper Hill Street, Richmond, with son Frederick Bernard Senior, an unmarried solicitor born in Islington, daughter Agnes Maria age 27 born in Richmond, and sons Theodore Henry age 24 and Augustus Reeve age 22, both born in Notting Hill. Frederick Bernard Senior married his first cousin Agnes Letitia Estlin in 1867.

The baptism record of James Christopher gives his parents' address as Cumming Street, London, in 1828. The baptism record of Theodore Henry gives his parents' address as 2 Norland Place, Notting Hill, in 1837.
