Cornelius Hendrickson or Henderixon Kortright of Hylands, Essex

???? - 1818

Biography

Merchant in St Croix, settled in England c. 1797, when he bought Hylands estate in Essex, the grounds of which he substantially remodelled with Humphrey Repton.

  1. Cornelius Henderixon Kortright and his wife Juliana Maria Waltersdorff made a joint will dated 1815 but probably made earlier as a form of marriage settlement in which she agreed to an annuity of £3000 p.a. in exchange for giving up further claims on their property if she survived her husband, leaving him to dispose of the estate, which he did generically among their [future] issue, leaving it in the ratio two shares for each son and one for each daughter. In an extended codicil, Kortright left his estate subject to the will itself in trust [his son-in-law Robert Alexander Crickitt, MP for Ipswich, was one of three trustees] to be realised and distributed. The will was proved 23/11/1818.
