Biography

One of two 'natural colored and reputed sons' of Henry Peter Simmons (q.v.), owner of Vaucluse estate in Barbados. Baptised in St Thomas, Barbados, 05/03/1820. His mother was Molly Harry and she was deceased by the time his father wrote his will in 1841. The two boys were the residuary legatees of their father.

John Alleyne Simmons married Caroline Gresham Q1 1855 in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. His death was registered Q2 in Hastings, Sussex. Letters of administration of the estate of John Alleyne Simmons formerly of Vaucluse Barbados afterwards of Porchester Hampshire and late of Irthlingborough Northants who died 31/05/1860 at St Leonards on Sea granted 08/10/1860 to Caroline Simmons of Chicksands Lodge the testamentary guardian of Henry Ellis Gresham Simmons and Caroline Marie Simmons the children of the deceased, effects under £1500.

Henry Ellis Gresham Simmon, son of John Alleyne and Caroline Simmons, was baptised in Portchester, Hampshire, in 1855. Frances Alleyne Simmons was baptised in Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire, in 1860.
