Biography

Slave-owner on Antigua, resident in the 1730s and then at some point before 1750 moving to England. Son and heir of Major John Duer of Great and Little Duers (d. c. 1718), and father of Rev. Rowland Duer senior and grandfather of Capt. John Duer and John Duer of Chichester (each of whom q.v.). his daughter Theodora married the politician George Rose (1744-1818): their son was George Henry Rose (q.v.).

  1. Will of John Duer late of Antigua now of Cover [Oliver gives Gover] Devon [made 26/09/1750] proved 12/01/1765. By the time of a codicil of 1761, he was of Fulham.
