Apparently resident slave-owner in Jamaica, shown 1785-1792 as deceased owner of Mount Pelier in Hanover, an estate mortgaged to Donald Malcolm (q.v.). Probably but not certainly the William Gilchrist who was the nephew and residuary heir of Alexander Gilchrist planter of Hanover, whose will [made in 1760 and with a grant of administration in 1766] had a second grant of administration 09/10/1770.
PROB 11/961/74.
