William Gordon of Aberdour

???? - 1839

Biography

Father-in-law of Peter Rose (q.v., who married Huntly Gordon in London), John Murray McGusty (q.v., who married Madalina Gordon in Georgetown) and a man named [David] Bridges (who married Alicia Gordon). All three men were of or lately of Demerara when William Gordon of Aberdour made his will (in which he left £3000 each to these three daughters and to a fourth, Georgina, as well as annuity of £80 p.a to a fifth daughter Jean Helena Gordon) in 1838. The will is silent on property in Demerara or Berbice, but given his daughters' marriages it is possible that there were connections between the family and British Guiana which have yet to be traced. William Gordon's wife was Mary Findlater Rose: her relationship if any to Peter Rose has yet to be traced.
