Biography

Natural son of Thomas Wynter (q.v.).

  1. William Rose Wynter, "fn", baptised 23/06/1770 in St Catherine, Jamaica. No parents' names given.

  2. William Rose Wynter, age 60, "army", was living at Dunford Street, East Stonehouse, Devon in 1841 with Margaret Wynter age 50 and two female servants.

  3. Will of William Rose Wynter [now residing at] East Stonehouse Devon was proved 23/05/1846. He opened his will by rehearsing the will of his father Thomas Wynter of St Catherine Jamaica dated 24/05/1788 under which Thomas Wynter instructed his estates of Hampshire and Prospect Penn be sold and the money aggregated in the hands of Richard Lee and Robert Cooper Lee with his personalty to be invested, and the income paid to William Rose Wynter for his life. Originally the Lees purchased £11,467 8s 6d consols, of which £1917 8s 11d had since been sold out to allow William Rose Wynter to equip his sons for the Army. He also had sums which he meticulously recorded wit the Mitchell firm in London. He left legacies to his sons Thomas Rose Wynter and William John Read Wynter (who then predeceased him), having provided for his daughter Anna Maria Rose on her marriage, with the residuary estate going to his wife Margaret.
