Elizabeth Howell Reed

Biography

Owner of one enslaved person in Manchester Jamaica when she was a minor, the claim for whom was made by her guardian Alexander Young and the compensation money paid to her brother Rev. William Reed (q.v.) after the death of Alexander Young in 1836. Born 21/02/1820 and baptised in Manchester, Jamaica, 06/03/1820, the daughter of Hugh Reid and his wife Mary Ann nee McConnell. Her father died a month before she was born. She was in Kingston Jamaica in 1837, but by 1841 was almost certainly the Eliza Reed living with William Polson barrister-at-law and his wife Charlotte, the father and mother-in-law of Rev. William Reed, in George Street St Pancras.
