Slave-owner on Jamaica, owner and then co-owner of Mount Champneys, apparently resident, and dying between 1829 and 1832.
By notice dated 14/09/1826, at Mount Champneys, John M’Kie offered reward for the return of a "negro" named Edward Sandford, lately purchased from Dr Paul; the runaway had been seen on the road to Kingston and was described as plausible, speaking good English, and likely to endeavour to pass himself off as free. Meanwhile, by 08/09/1826, Edward, a Wakee, 5’ 5”, belonging to Mr John M’Kie, St Thomas in the East, had been detained in the Spanish Town Workhouse.
John Mackie esq died at Mount Champneys, St Thomas in the East, much regretted, 04/12/1827.
