The Maryland estate (previously owned by Edward Hyde East) was registered to Hinton East in 1839. Inferred by LBS to have been Hinton East the son of Edward East (q.v.) by his second marriage: if so he was Edward Hyde East's half-brother. The Hon. Hinton East of St Andrew Jamaica died in 1866 leaving £4000.

Jamaican-born widow of a prominent slave-owner; resident in Britain following the death of her husband in 1818. Accused - and acquitted - of the cruel treatment of some enslaved people whom she brought to Britain with her.

A cover note outlining the contents of the document.
