Biography

Louisa Child nee Stamp and her husband James Edward Child were parties to the chancery suit of Child v Holloway, into which the compensation for the enslaved people on Mount Holstein estate in St George was paid. The couple had married at St George Hanover Square in London in 1820. Louisa Child died formerly of 3 Marlborough Cottages College Street Chelsea but late of 9 College Place Chelsea 28/10/1863 leaving £300. In 1851 she had been living as head of household at 4 Sydney Terrace, 'wife of a grocer', born Jamaica aged 50, with a son Edwin 'modeller of iron.'
