Biography

  1. Member of Assembly for St Ann in 1731, the year of his death.

  2. Slave-factor in Jamaica. Will of Richard Assheton merchant of Kingston Jamaica [made in 1730] proved 05/06/1732. His residuary heir was his nephew, son of his late brother Ralph Assheton of Lancashire, the Rev. Richard Assheton rector of Middleton and Warden of Christ's College, Manchester (d. 1800).

  3. Richard Asheton of St Ann, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1732. Slave-ownership at probate: 244 of whom 151 were listed as male and 93 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £9163.47 Jamaican currency of which £7605 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £3.12 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £210.85 currency plate.
