Biography

Son of David Thomson (q.v.) of Hanover Jamaica, and nephew and co-heir of Thomas Reid jun. (q.v.), also inheriting £1000 from his aunt 'Mrs Reid.' He was the namesake of his uncle, Samuel Wells Thomson (d. 1778), while his aunt had been a friend of James Boswell.

  1. Administration of the will of Samuel Wells Thomson clerk of Christ Church Oxford was granted 03/12/1812 to Isabella Reid Thomson and Elizabeth Reid Thomson, the natural sisters. He left all the personal and landed property to which he was or might become entitled in Britain and Jamaica equally to his sisters, save for £1000 to be paid to his two natural children by Martha Mead, called William Samuel and Elizabeth Thomson, the latter amount of which he intended to be paid from the legacy he had received from his aunt Mrs Reid late of Somerset Street. He struck out of the will his nomination as executor of his uncle 'Baron Thomson of the Exchequer' [Sir Alexander Thomson Lord Chief Baron of HM Court of Exchequer d. 1817].
