Biography

London merchant, brother and partner of Ebenezer Maitland (q.v.) and father of John and Alexander Maitland (each of whom q.v.).

  1. Will of Robert Maitland merchant of Coleman Street [made in 1791] proved 26/04/1810. He left his wife Elizabeth £10,000, and land in Sussex and London for life, and then to his eldest son John whom he had taken into partnership. He left £3000 each to two younger sons and two younger daughters, and £1000 (without further comment) to another son, Alexander. In a codicil he recorded the entry of Alexander Maitland and John Maitland into his partnership and revoked their monetary legacies as a result.
