Henry Kirlew

Biography

Englishman who went to Jamaica in the 1820s and died there in late 1829. He was staying with George Kirlew (q.v.) on Phoenix Park.

  1. Will of Henry Kirlew [late of Broad Street, Ratcliffe one of the hamlets of the Tower of London] gentleman [but now residing at] Phoenix Park, Westmoreland Jamaica proved 22/04/1830. He left to George Kirlew and Ann Bruce both of Phoenix Park all his estate as tenants-in-common for life, specifying that he owned South Duffield Hall in Yorkshire and his leasehold messuage at 4 Union Place, both then rented out. After the death of George Kirlew and Ann Bruce the property was to pass to his [the testator's] uncle Edward Kirlew coal merchant of Essex Wharf. He left £1000 in trust with George Kirlew and Ann Bruce for the education of any child to be born within 8 months of the date of the will to Mary Smith 'a slave belonging to the Prospect Estate' in Westmoreland.
