Helen (born 1791 at Morant Bay), Andrew (born 1794 at Mount Ida) and Jane (born 1796 at Mount Ida) were baptised 17/02/1798 at Mount Ida, children of Ninian and Elizabeth Petrie.
Probably also the father of Elizabeth, born 10/11/1790, baptised at the Tavern in St Thomas-in-the-East 28/10/1789, daughter of Mr and Mrs Petrie.
Ninian Petrie registered two enslaved people in Kingston as owner in 1817. His daughter Helen married John Hoyes Esquire in Kingston in September 1817. Ninian Petrie was deceased by 1820 when Helen Hoyes and Elizabeth Petrie registered enslaved people by legacy from Ninian Petrie.

Free person of colour, slave-owner in Jamaica. Long-term partner and later wife of Thomas Legal Yates. Living in Britain from the mid-1830s until her death in 1873.

A cover note outlining the contents of the document.
