Biography

Son of Edward Archer Applewhaite of Barbados (1770-1804) and Mary Lytcott, and brother of Philip Lytcott Applewhaite (1795-1841) (q.v.) and grandson of Thomas Applewhaite senior.

  1. Born Barbados April 1799. Married Judith Frewin [or Frewen] Wood 20/04/1820; three children all baptised at St Marylebone on the same day in 1824, suggesting a visit from abroad. In 1841 the family was living at Lindley Hall, Higham Leicstershire: Edward Archer Ind. 40, Judith 35, Edward 15, Sarah 14, Harriet 10, Julia 5, Ernest 3 Hanson 2.  1881 census shows Edward Archer Applewhaite born Barbados aged 81 living South Pickenham Hall with sons C[harles] M[undy] 48, Ernest G. 44 and Hanson H aged 43 (all born Lindsey Hall Leics), as well as son-in-law Thos Hay and daughter Julia M. Hay.

  2. The family bought South Pickenham Hall c. 1842.  Inscriptions in the parish church at South Pickenham memorialise: Judith (died 29/11/1875, erected by her daughter Sarah); Edward Thornhill Applewhaite, eldest son of Edward Archer Applewhaite who died 16/05/1871 aged 49; Charles Mundy Applewhaite who died 15/02/1897;  a cross with Edward Archer Applewhaite himself, 'born Aprl 1799/died Novr 1889' and Judith Frewin Applewhaite born Feb 1800/died Novr 1875;  Harriett[e] C Levison born Octbr 1829 died April 1885; Julia M Hay born April 1835 died Octr 1881; Hanson Henry Applewhaite died 16 Decr 1927 aged 88; Edward Thornhill Applewahite born Feby 1822/died May 1871; Ernest G. Applewhaite born Feb 1838 died Octr 1882
