Biography

Six children born to Robert James and his wife Elizabeth Anne, baptised in St Catherine, Jamaica: Robert Henry (1798), John (1800), Sarah Ann (1801), Richard (1804), Elizabeth (1806), Millicent (1808) and Jane (1814). Three other children probably in the same family, parents Robert James and Elizabeth nee Rennalls (who died between March and July 1816): Robert (1811), Ann (1813) and Edward (1816).

Enslaved people registered to Edward James by guardian 1817-1823 and to four of the girls, Eliza, Millicent, Ann and Jane James from 1826 to at least 1834. Millicent married Thomas Cordingley in London in 1838. None of the others have been traced.

Millicent James of 8 Milman Street, London, spinster, daughter of Robert James, planter, married Thomas Cordingly of 8 Paternoster Row, London, bachelor, merchant, son of William Cordingly, merchant, at St Andrew Holborn, London, 23/06/1838.
