Charles Parker Ellis

Son of John Ellis of Hurlingham (1757-1832) and Antoinette Parker (daughter of Admiral Sir Peter Parker), and nephew of Lord Seaford. He was an Army officer, slightly wounded at Waterloo as a Captain in the 1st Guards.

1. Fort George is shown for George Ellis in 1812, for John Ellis (as Fort George Pen) in 1817, 1820 and 1822, then as Thomas P. Rogers 1823, 1825, James Lawes 1829 and 1833. George Ellis (1753-1815) and John Ellis (1757-1832) were cousins.

2. John Ellis (1757-1832) and Antoinette Parker had a son, Charles Ellis, appointed an Ensign of the first Regiment of Foot guards 28/02/1811.

3. Will of Charles Parker Ellis Colonel in HM's Army of Clevedon Somerset proved 30/08/1850. In the will he left his entire property to his 'little wife' Juliana Maria Ellis. In a codicil he left an annuity to Margaret Hall of Greathead in Northumberland. In a further codicil, he left his interest in the Fort George estate in St George Jamaica (which was subject to several charges and encumbrances, including one for £2000 to himself) to the Rt Hon. Charles Augustus, Lord Howard de Walden and Seaford.

London Gazette 17033 03/07/1815 p. 1309. NB The 'Charles Ellis' given in the Register of Claims for the Fort George claim in St George Jamaica is certainly this man, Charles Parker Ellis, linked by the claim of his uncle and by family ties of ownership and confirmed by his will. The Charles Ellis (q.v.) awarded compensation as devisee-in-trust with Mary Cruikshank (q.v.) for two estates belonging to James Cruikshank in St Mary Jamaica (T71/856 Nos 250 and 251) is described in James Cruikshank's will as of Lincolns Inn and was presumably a lawyer, possibly only an agent, and was a different man.
