Biography

Liverpool merchant in partnership Nicholas Russell Garner (q.v.) and others in Thomas Lee, Haynes and Company (q.v.) of Liverpool and Bridgetown.

  1. 'Lee and Garner' are shown as the mortgagees of Richard Smitten, going to Chancery in 1830 to enforce the sale of the Mangrove Pond and Farm estates in St Thomas and Black Rock in St James (the sale proceeds covered two-thirds of the £44,664 secured against the properties). In 1836 Thomas Lee bought Mangrove Pond for £16428, and sold it to James Holligan for £17857 in 1838; in 1835 Lee had bought the Lightfoots estate from Jospeh Tudor for £14,285, including the right to compensation, reselling it to Nathaniel Cave in 1837 again for £14,825 (but the compensation having been paid).  

  2. Thomas Lee of Liverpool was still active in Barbados trading in 1845, seeking to sell Bowmanstown, an estate that had belonged to Samuel Hall Lord. Almost certainly the Thomas Lee merchant late of 80 Mount Pleasant Liverpool who died 12/05/1865 leaving effects under £18,000 and one of whose executors was Septimus Booker. In 1851, Thomas Lee West India merchant aged 62 was living at 66 Mount Pleasant with his mother Elizabeth, both born Cheshire: Septimus Booker, solicitor, was shown at the same address as 'visitor' to the house.
