Joseph Feilden

Joseph Feilden of Witton House (given in Parliamentary Papers as Joseph Fielden), awarded half of a moiety of the compensation for Spring Vale and Green Park esates in Jamaica, for which the claim was originally by Eleanora Atherton and her brother-in-law Richard Willis: Feilden was trustee of the latter, who was his first cousin.

1. Trustee (originally with Robert Dalrymple of Manchester Square) of marriage settlement in 1819 of Lucy Atherton and Richard Willis junr., of Hal[s]nead.  Eleonora and Lucy Atherton, both of Great James St in the parish of St Andrews Holborn, are described as the co-heiresses of Henry Atherton.

2. Son of Henry Feilden of Witton, born 28/02/1792; married Frances Mary daughter of Rev. Streynsham Master rector of Croston June 1817; magistrate and DL; High Sheriff 1818. The Feildens were linked by marriage to the Willis family: Joseph Feilden's aunt Cicely m. Richard Willis of Halsnead.

3. MP for Blackburn 1865-9; married Fanny, daughter of William Hill of Blythe Hall near Ormskirk; left £100,000. The will of Joseph Feilden of Witton dated 08/04/1819 lodged at the Lancashire Archives and shown on TNA's site appears to be an early will that was later superseded.

4. One of Feilden's sons, Randle Joseph (1824-19 May 1895), army officer, businessman and politician, was Conservative MP for Lancashire Northern, 1880-1885, and Chorley (1885-1895). Strongly in favour of Conservative opposition to Home Rule for Ireland; favoured repeal of the Indian cotton duties.
