1778 - 1829
Liverpool merchant, whose executors (R. Ramsden, Adam Hodgson and William Ellis, each of whom q.v.) were awarded the compensation for Plantation Profit in British Guiana.
Lister Ellis of Rodney Street Liverpool aged 51 or 57 buried St George Everton, Walton-on-the-Hill Lancashire 10/03/1829; will of Lister Ellis of Liverpool proved 30/12/1829. A Lister Ellis was baptised at West Keighley Yorkshire 09/09/1778, the son of Lister Ellis and Frances, the daughter of William Blakey. The widow of Lister Ellis of Liverpool, Olivia née Garforth of Yorkshire, married George Russell son of Alexander Russell of Aden in 1836.
Lister Ellis and William Ellis appear as partners in the firm of Watson, Blakeys and Smith, cotton twist-spinners at Greengate Mill within Kighley [sic], which became Watson, Blakeys and Marriner and then Watson Blakeys Marriner and Ellis. William Ellis withdrew on 03/12/1804 and Lister Ellis on 03/12/1805. Frances Watson is reported as having transferred her share to her son Lister Ellis of Kighley at her death: presumably this is Frances Ellis née Blakey having remarried (to Rowland Watson, an original partner).
Lister Ellis was a partner in Shand, Ellis and Shand, merchants and factors Liverpool until his withdrawal in 1826. The firm became Charles, William and Francis Shand (q.v.).
