Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Vice Admiral, mortgagee (for £3000 plus arrears of interest) of Belmont's estate belonging to Meade Home Daniell. Son of Rev. Frederick Wollaston (1734-1801) and his 2nd wife Priscilla Ottley, daughter of Drewry Ottley the second (d. 1751) of St Kitts. It is not clear how the mortgage came to Charles Wollaston. His father's cousin, the Queen's physician Dr Charlton Wollaston (1733-1764) had married Phyllis Byam, daughter of Samuel Byam of Antigua.

  1. Death of Charles Wollaston registered Q1 1845 Bury St Edmunds; Will of Charles Wollaston Vice Admiral in Her Majesty's Navy of Bury St Edmunds proved 26/03/1845. The will - the main beneficiaries of which were his nieces and nephews - sheds no further light on his possession of a mortgage of slave property 10 years before.
