Biography

Soldier, Major and then Lieutenant-colonel in the 4th West Indian regiment, Quartermaster General in Antigua and later of Llangollen, Wales who in right of his wife Margaret Watts (q.v.) (née Haverkam, grand-daughter of Monica Kirwan) was awarded compensation for enslaved people in Antigua.

  1. Major Samuel Watts of the 4th West India Regiment Quartermaster-General of Antigua married Margaret Haverkam at St John's Antigua 03/11/1812; will of Samuel Watts Lieutenant Colonel, formerly Major in the Army of Llangollen Denbighshire proved 19/12/1839.

T71/1223 letter to Commissioners from Barron & Co. 15/05/1837 identifies Margaret Watts and Mrs Sarah McHugo as grand-daughters of Monica Kirwan and daughters of Mary Haverkam (née Kirwan). Samuel Watts and Robert Horsford as trustees were awarded the share of compensation claimed by Mr and Mrs McHugo under Antigua claim no. 554.
