Sarah's husband J. McHugo claimed unsuccessfully for compensation in Antigua no. 554 on his wife's behalf; payment was made instead to his wife's sister Margaret and his brother-in-law Samuel Watts (both q.v.).
The claims from Sarah and Margaret were based on their inheritance from their mother Mary Haverkam nee Kirwan (daughter of Monica Kirwan). Mary had married James Haverkam of Antigua, an army officer on half pay, at St George's, Antigua, 05/01/1783.
Oliver's History of Antigua gives the marriage of James Haverkam and Mary Kirwan but claims Sarah married Thomas Scotland, brother to Chief Justice Scotland of Trinidad and to James Scotland, Master in Chancery in Antigua.
T71/887 Antigua claim no. 554. T71/1223: letter, dated 15/05/1837, from Barron & Co., 4 Upper Charles St., stating that Mrs Watts and Mrs McHugo were both grand-daughters of Monica Kirwan; Mary Haverkam was their mother. Lt-Col. Samuel Watts and Robert Horsford were constrained to counterclaim versus Mrs McHugo's claim by virtue of the trust deed executed by Mrs McHugo in favour of her children before her marriage to Mr McHugo. Mr McHugo 'has declared that he does not intend to interfere with the obvious purposes of his wife's Trust Deed'.
