Biography

Frances Maria Lushington (née Lewis), wife of Sir Henry Lushington, granddaughter of Sir Thomas Sewell, inherited a share of Hordley Estate in Jamaica from her brother Matthew Gregory Lewis (q.v.).

  1. Born in 1777, her father was Matthew Lewis, who owned sugar estates in Jamaica. She married Sir Henry Lushington, 2nd Bart. (1775-1863), on 08/04/1799. Living with her husband, one son, and servants at Montague Square, Marylebone, in the census of 1841, age 60, of independent means, born in Middlesex. At 32 Montague Square, Marylebone, in 1851, age 74, with her husband, two daughters (Maria age 50 and Sophia age 44), granddaughter (Laura age 12) and servants. At the same address in 1861, age 84, with her husband, daughter Sophia, 54, son Franklin, 49, daughter-in-law Ann, 41, granddaughter Eleanor F. Lushington, 5, and servants.

  2. Died 26/05/1862. Sir Henry Lushington left effects under £20,000 at his death in 1863.

  3. Sister-in-law to John Shedden (q.v.).
