William Gunthorpe of Antigua and Bugle Hall

???? - 1807

Biography

William Gunthorpe, son of William Gunthorpe of Paddington, father of James and Rev. William Gunthhorpe, husband of Margaret Christian and father-in-law of Alicia Gunthorpe (each of whom q.v.), owner of Gunthorpe's until his death in 1807.

  1. Will of William Gunthorpe of Antigua proved 14/12/1807. In the will he left £1000 to his wife Margaret, explaining that she was adequately provided for under the will of her mother and under the terms of the settlement made upon their marriage, under which Margaret was entitled to an annuity of £500 p.a. secured on the Gunthorpe's estate. He left £8100 to his children Mary and James, and his property in Southampton and the Gunthorpe's estate to his son William. In a codicil longer than the will, he increased his wife's income by £150 p.a., provided for the purchase of a commission for his son James, and left without explanation an annuity of £100 p.a. to the son of Sarah, wife of a man in Petersham.
