Francis Ford of Lears

1717 - 1772

Biography

Born 24 February 1717-1718. Member of the Barbados Council, 1767. Died at Portman Street, London c. August 1772. Father of Sir Francis Ford 1st Bart. (q.v.).

  1. Will of Francis Ford of St Michael Barbados proved in London 04/09/1773. He left each of his daughters Martha, Ann and Elizabeth £10,000 each at 18. He left his estate to his son Francis, but if Francis died before 21, the estates were to be divided as follows: to Martha, the plantations called Bentley's, the Ridge and the Below Rock; to Ann, Lear's and the Bay (which he had contracted to sell to Alexander Sandiford for £13,500, which she was to receive in lieu should Bay be sold); to Elizabeth, Carrington and Pickering's. Of these estates, Below Rock has not yet been traced while Carrington appears to refer to a different estate to Carringtons, which was held by the Carrington and Parris families.
