George Robertson senior

1756 - 1799


Co-founder of the firm that evolved into Sandbach Tinne, father of a son known to have been a free man of colour, also named George Robertson (q.v.), and the uncle of Gilbert Robertson (q.v.).

  1. Will of George Robertson [made ] proved in London 26/03/1800. He left one half of his estate to his wife Elizabeth Dempster living at Mitcham Surrey; one quarter to his son with her, James; and one quarter to his children with his wife deceased Catherine Leith, viz. George, Margaretha and Ann. [Although he was explicit that he had been married to Catherine, the pattern of legacies suggest that the latter three children formed part of an 'outside' family]. He instructed his effects in this colony and elsewhere in the West Indies be liquidated, and he appointed as his local executor his clerk H[enr]y Buckell or Burkell, failing whom A.C. Boode.
