Biography

  1. Resident slave-owner, leaving his estate [Midgham] to his only son George Poyntz Ricketts in his will proved in 1756. The will also refers to "my loving Cousin Jacob Johnson" (see Jacob Johnson senior - q.v.) and Johnson's son Thomas Johnson.

  2. Jacob Ricketts was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 600 acres of land in St Elizabeth.

  3. Jacob Ricketts of Westmoreland, planter. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1756. Slave-ownership at probate: 171 of whom 88 were listed as male and 83 as female. 33 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £9402.17 Jamaican currency of which £6205 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £0 currency plate.
