Free man of colour on Barbados, dying c. 1803.
Jacob Belgrave married Elizabeth Ann Spike 07/05/1778 in St Philip, Barbados. The marriage record gave them as "free mulattoes". They had three children: Jacob II (1770?-1828), Elizabeth Maria (1779-) and John Thomas (1770?-1810).
Elizabeth Ann Spike must have died by 1787 when Jacob married Sophia Mary Croydon. Again, the marriage record gives them both as "free mulatto". They had two children: William Croydon (1789?-) and Sarah Ann (1790?-). Sophia Mary Belgrave was buried 22/08/1818 in St Michael, Barbados.
Jacob Belgrave also had two children with Margaret, a "mulatto woman belonging to Jacob Belgrave Snr": James and Margaret (both baptised 1800).
Owner of The Adventure in St Philip, Barbados. His estate inventory of 1803 gave The Adventure as over 98 acres with 94 enslaved people. The Adventure passed to his son John Thomas Belgrave. Another of his sons was Jacob Belgrave junior.
