Biography

London and Barbados merchant, partner with Osgood Hanbury I.

  1. Will of Richard Gosling merchant of [Maryland Point] Westham [sic] [made in 1759] proved 08/02/1770. He left his wife a debt from Gedney Clarke evidenced by a bond for £1189 13s 7d, and monetary legacies to his children, including John Asgill Gosling (q.v.). In a codicil he said that his wife had conveyed to Osgood Hanbury in trust named enslaved people, in order that he [the testator] - who had previously only held them in right of his wife - could sell them if he chose.
