"At White River House, St George's Jamaica, on the 17th March last, by the Rev. Miles C. Bolton, A.M., the Hon. John Bell of Woodstock, and Custos Rotulorum of that parish to Mary Ann, only daughter of the deceased John Hosack, Esq. of Buff Bay River estate, in Jamaica, and Glengaber, Dumfries-shire."
John Bell was in Scotland in the 1830s, having left Jamaica in 1837, and the question whether he had taken residence there at the time of his wife's death in 1838 was litigated in Bell v Kennedy, reaching the House of Lords in 1868. He later bought Enterkine House in Ayrshire.
