Biography

Eldest son of John Hosack (q.v.) and his wife Jean Tinning. Baptised in Tinwald, Dumfries, 09/09/1808. Inherited Buff Bay River from his father who died c. 1816 but not to assume management of the estate until he reached age 26. He remained in Jamaica at least until the Morant Bay uprising, but was in Britain by 1881.

  1. In 1881 William Hosack 'retired member executive Jamaica Gov. income colonial [illeg.]' aged 72 was living at 63 Elsham Road Kensington with his wife Jane and three children born in Jamaica and two servants.
