Biography

Merchant and partner in the Glasgow-Trinidad firms of Walrond Ellis (q.v.), awarded the compensation with his partners for two groups of enslaved people in Trinidad. Andrew Johnstone [sic], the executor of John Blackwood c. 1820, was possibly the same man.

  1. It is not always clear from the announcements in the London Gazette of changes in the partnership (which operated in Glasgow, Liverpool, Trinidad and St Thomas) where Andrew Johnston was based, but he was in Glasgow in 1845 when he signed an announcement of a change in composition of the partnership.
