Eldest son of Francis Maitland and his wife Ann nee Wright. Inherited a share in Mitcham and Silver Grove estates in trust under the will of his grandfather Andrew Wright on the death of his mother Ann c. 1833. Baptised with three of his younger brothers at Giddy Hall in St Elizabeth, Jamaica, in 1814. Not identified in the British censuses. An unsourced family tree on Ancestry.com (by purplefrog505) gives his birth as 12/04/1809 and his death as 20/04/1856 in Jamaica.
