Biography

Son of Archibald Armstrong senior (q.v., who died in 1823). Awardee of the compensation for the enslaved people on the Woodford estate on Grenada and probably for two other small awards there, and (as executor of Richard or Archibald Armstrong) awardee also of part of the compensation for the Garden estate in Trinidad (where he was identified as of Grenada); in addition, he appears as assignee with John Hoyes of George Armstrong in the award for the Prospect estate in Trinidad.

  1. Inherited Woodford estate in Grenada from his father on condition that he pay £3400 to each of his five sisters and £30 a year to his brother Joseph. Archibald junior was in London for the proving of his father's will in 1823.

  2. Twelve months leave was granted to Archibald Armstrong, a member of the council of Grenada, in 1835.

  3. In 1851 Archibald Armstrong aged 61 'fund holder' born West Indies Island of Grenada was living in St Peters Port Guernsey with wife Anne 44 born Grenada, and daughter Isabella (aged 24 born Grenada), son Ellice (aged 14 born Guernsey) and daughter [sic] Collins or Collings (aged 9 born Guernsey). In 1861 Archibald ('retired merchant' aged 71) and Anne were visitors at the house of Richard W. Fall, East India merchant and his wife Anne aged 34 born Grenada. In 1841 the family was already in Guernsey. Anne Isabella Fall was identified as daughter of Archibald Irwin Armstrong and Anne Munro Armstrong and administrator of [her brother] Archibald Collings Fall Armstrong in 1886.

  4. Will of Archibald Irwin otherwise Archibald Armstrong late of Amherst in the parish of St John the Evangelist Guernsey proved 21/09/1868 by Anne Munro Armstrong (born Gibbs) the relict, effects under £4000 in England. Anne Munro Armstrong herself died in 1885 leaving just under £16,000.
