Alexander Scott

1793 - 1860

Biography

Son of Robert Scott of Coldhouse and his wife Margaret nee Chisholme. Inherited a share in Thomas's River, North Hall, Health Crawl and Breadland Pen in Clarendon, Jamaica, from his uncle William Chisholme who died in 1802.

  1. In Kozala cemetery in Rijeka (ex Fiume), Croatia, there is a tomb with inscription: "Here lie the remains of Alexander Scott / of Coldhouse Roxberg ... shire / born / … buried … / in the Sept 1795 / Here / on the … 10 Feb 1870 / In his …" His wife Cristina born Adamich is also buried there: "Cristina Adamich / miniom of i.r. … the legiones / born at Fiume … in July 1800 / died here on the August 1878" as well as their daughter Sabina Horchy nee Scott : "Sabina Horhy / lived 78 years / 30. 7. 1900." The stone is decripit but it is still possible to read part of inscriptions.

  2. Apparently Uvala Scott in Kraljevica, Croatia, is named after Alexander Scott.

  3. Gentleman's Magazine gives his death as 18/11/1860: "At Fiume, Austria, aged 67, Alexander, youngest son of the Rev. Robert Scott, of Coldhouse, Roxburghshire. He was one of the few surviving friends of the late Lord Byron." Presumably the discrepancy is due to the deterioration of his tombstone.
