John Tharp the elder, second son of John Tharp IV of Good Hope and Chippenham Park. Born in Jamaica but lived his adult life in England. Inherited an annuity of £2,000 p/a from his father (d. 1804) and the right to live at Chippenham Park in Cambridgeshire until his nephew, John Tharp the younger [q.v. under John Tharp VIII], reached the age of 24. His children received £40,000 in the will of their grandfather.
Married Anna Maria, daughter of Charles Philips [given as Phillips] of Ruxley Lodge, Surrey. 4 sons and 3 daughters.
Acted as committee for his nephew John Tharp the younger, a 'lunatic' {q.v. under John Tharp VIII].
